The Diplomat returns Oct. 15 for Season 4, picking up after a finale that left Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), Vice President Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), President Grace Penn (Allison Janney), and First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford) tangled in a very dangerous web of marriage, politics, and betrayal.

The new teaser promises plenty of fireworks. Kate suspects Hal and Grace may have double-crossed her, while Todd isn’t exactly thrilled about the growing closeness between his wife and Hal. Creator and showrunner Debora Cahn describes the season as two couples “strapped together in one car on a crumbling roller coaster”—and that sounds about right.

Kate, meanwhile, insists she isn’t trying to escape her marriage. She’s “trying to get back in.” That may be easier said than done, especially with Grace and Hal plotting around one of Russia’s most powerful weapons.

Then everything gets even messier: a catastrophe threatens the fragile peace Kate has built between the U.S. and U.K., forcing her and Todd into an unlikely alliance to counter the Grace-Hal power play.

So, yes, the fights are going to be spicy. The marriages may be worse. And international relations? Somehow, they’re even more complicated.

The Diplomat Season 4 premieres Oct. 15. All three previous seasons are available to stream now.
