Before endless scrolling turned movie night into a choose-your-own-adventure, Friday nights had a simple formula: two movies, one ticket. Now Pluto TV is bringing that old-school tradition back—with a modern streaming twist.
Launching Friday, Aug. 21, Double Feature Fridays pairs a beloved studio classic with a new indie free-streaming premiere, connected by a shared star, genre or theme. The weekly lineup will also get a little Hollywood insider treatment, thanks to Entertainment Tonight correspondent Emily Curl.
Each Friday, Curl will introduce the films with original segments built from Entertainment Tonight’s extensive archive, featuring rare on-set interviews, behind-the-scenes stories and career highlights from some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Think of it as the movie-night bonus feature—before the movie even starts.
The opening double feature sets the tone: Gravity + The Outer Threat. An Entertainment Tonight vault interview explores the physical demands Sandra Bullock faced making Gravity, along with a look back at George Clooney’s involvement. Then comes the free-streaming premiere of The Outer Threat, starring Constance Wu as a retired astrophysicist whose quiet life takes a dramatic turn after her partner makes a startling discovery.
“Double Feature Fridays” premieres every Friday at 8 p.m. ET on Pluto TV Spotlight, then moves to the Double Feature Fridays on-demand collection.
And the lineup has plenty more where that came from: Django Unchained paired with Outlaw Posse, John Wick: Chapter 4 with Reckless, Friday with A Hip Hop Story, Pitch Perfect with 40 Dates and 40 Nights, and The Notebook with What’s Love Got to Do with It.
The weekly event runs through the end of 2026, eventually rolling out holiday favorites including Scrooged and Bad Santa 1 & 2.
In other words, Pluto TV is betting that the best way to make streaming feel like an event is to bring back something audiences already know: pick two movies, grab the snacks and make Friday night movie night again.
