If you like your Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME with a little risk, a little chaos, and a whole lot of nostalgia, Beyond the Brave may be worth a look.
The new 100-card core booster set, BETB, officially launches October 9, 2026, with tournament legality beginning the same day. Official Tournament Stores get the set a little earlier on October 7. There was also a special Beyond the Brave Premiere! event October 2–4, giving players an early chance to pick up cards and experience the set. Packs have an MSRP of $4.49.
And while the set covers plenty of ground, one name gets the biggest spotlight: Joey Wheeler.

Joey Rolls the Dice
Joey’s classic luck-based strategy gets a serious makeover around Dark Time Wizard.
The new Quick-Play Spell gives players a choice. Play it safe by searching for cards that mention Dark Time Wizard and recycling the Wizard later, or go all-in with a coin toss.
Call it correctly and you can destroy your opponent’s monsters and deal damage based on their combined ATK. Call it wrong and your own monsters are destroyed.
That’s very Joey.
The new Red-Eyes Black Dragon Exceed gives the strategy a massive 3,400 ATK boss monster. It can hit the field when monsters are destroyed by Dark Time Wizard and is protected from the opponent’s activated Spell and monster effects. It can also bring another Level 8 or lower monster back from your hand or Graveyard.
Cards such as Swiftwind Panther Warrior, Alligator’s Dragon Knight, Jinzo – Energy Shocker, Graceful & Skull Dice, and Sleepy Scapegoats give Joey’s new strategy plenty of additional ways to set up and keep the action moving.
Destiny HERO Gets a Boost
Aster Phoenix isn’t sitting this one out.
Beyond the Brave brings a new wave of reimagined Destiny HERO cards, including Destiny HERO – Doom Overlord, Destro-Dogma, and Dreadnought Master.
The new cards provide more searching, stronger monsters, Fusion options, and additional support for Clock Tower Prison and the new Dark City at Midnight.
The big takeaway? This isn’t just another flashy Destiny HERO boss. The new cards give the strategy more ways to get its game plan started and keep it going.

Atlantis Rises Again
Things get considerably wetter with the set’s new Atlantis, Umi, and Daedalus strategy.
Atlantis, City of the Sea Dragon lowers the Levels of monsters in both players’ hands and on the field, potentially disrupting opposing Synchro and Xyz plays. It can also reduce the Link material needed for the deck’s two major Daedalus monsters and return itself from the Graveyard.
Then things get nasty.
Azure Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus Rage can revive up to three monsters that mention Atlantis, while its powerful effect can send non-Umi cards on the field to the Graveyard.
Levia-Dragoon – Daedalus can Special Summon an Atlantis monster directly from the Deck and can force the opponent to redraw their hand.
Several of the strategy’s monsters also become Umi while on the field, giving the deck plenty of ways to fuel its effects.
In short: swarm the field, manipulate Levels, recycle Atlantis, and make your opponent very unhappy.

Traps Fight Back
Ashtra takes a very different approach.
This new Trap-focused strategy lets its monsters Special Summon themselves by revealing a face-down card and returning it to your hand or Extra Deck. If that card is a Spell or Trap, it can simply be Set again.
Even better, Ashtra Trap Cards can themselves be Summoned as Tuner monsters, opening the door to Synchro plays without abandoning the deck’s Trap-heavy identity.
The result is a strategy built around patience, face-down cards, and turning your back row into an active part of your monster lineup.
A Little Something for Everyone
Beyond the major strategies, Beyond the Brave adds support for a surprisingly broad collection of decks.
Among the returning themes are Endymion, Clown Crew, Predaplant, Adamancipator, Umbral Horror, Invoked, Sacred Beasts, and others.
There are also some interesting standalone cards and pieces of support for existing strategies.
And then there’s Audhumla, Progenitor of the Frozen Expanse, a World Premiere card that can trade unwanted Spells and Traps for new draws. WATER decks get an additional benefit, and flipping Audhumla face-down can help protect your own face-down cards. The card also gets an extended-art version.
The Verdict
Beyond the Brave is shaping up to be a set built around one simple idea: give familiar characters and strategies new ways to play.
Joey gets his coin flips. Aster gets new Destiny HERO firepower. Atlantis gets a dangerous makeover. Ashtra brings an entirely new Trap-and-Synchro strategy.
And collectors have plenty to chase, too. The set includes 10 Secret Rares, 14 Ultra Rares, 26 Super Rares, and 50 Commons, along with extended-art Ultra Rares and Starlight Rare versions.
For longtime players, there’s plenty of nostalgia. For newer players, there are some genuinely unusual strategies to explore.
