The war machine has a beginning. John Rambo, an origin story to the iconic action franchise, has officially started production in Bangkok, Thailand — and it’s loading up serious firepower both in front of and behind the camera.
Noah Centineo (the upcoming Street Fighter) steps into the boots of the young, battle-hardened fighter who would become one of cinema’s most enduring action heroes. Directing is Jalmari Helander, known for the brutal, high-intensity style of Sisu, signaling this won’t be a soft reboot — expect grit, survival, and raw edge.
The script comes from Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (Black Adam, The Mauritanian), with producing muscle from franchise veterans Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon, alongside Jonathan Yunger for Millennium Media. AGBO’s Michael Disco and Angela Russo-Otstot also produce, with Anthony and Joe Russo among the executive producers. Lionsgate will distribute.
The film explores Rambo’s life years before First Blood, digging into the formative experiences that shaped the haunted, unstoppable soldier audiences came to know.
Centineo is joined by a stacked ensemble including Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong.
Before the legend. Before the war at home. This is where Rambo begins.
