HBO Max is set to premiere “The Bride!” exclusively on May 22, bringing one of 2026’s most anticipated gothic dramas directly to streaming audiences worldwide. Written, directed, and produced by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the film reimagines the classic Frankenstein-inspired tale with a bold modern style, dark humor, and explosive romance.

Set in 1930s Chicago, the story follows a lonely man named Frank who seeks the help of groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious to create a companion. Their shocking experiment revives a murdered young woman, giving life to The Bride. What begins as a desperate search for connection quickly spirals into chaos involving murder, obsession, rebellion, and a dangerous love story.

The star-studded cast includes Academy Award winners Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale alongside Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. The film’s stylish setting, emotional intensity, and unconventional storytelling have already generated major buzz among movie fans and critics alike.

HBO Max also confirmed that an American Sign Language version of the film will debut the same day, expanding accessibility for viewers. Directed by Rosa Lee Timm and performed by ASL Dubber Yamila Davis, the special version highlights the platform’s continued focus on inclusive streaming experiences.

With gothic visuals, powerhouse performances, and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s creative vision, “The Bride!” is shaping up to be one of the year’s most talked-about streaming movie releases.
