UK garage’s fast-rising star MPH has teamed up with Skrillex for “Mirage,” a high-octane new single out today via DisOrder/Capitol Records.
The track has been a long time coming for fans, who first caught wind of it when MPH dropped it into his EDC Las Vegas set in May. Sampling Red Rat’s early-2000s dancehall classic “ShellyAnn,” “Mirage” is pure dancefloor euphoria: driving drums, sputtering bass, warped vocal chops and bright, bouncing synths all collide at full speed.
The collaboration came together just as spontaneously. The pair made the track in a single afternoon, trading the laptop back and forth with no real plan beyond seeing where their ideas led. “Skrillex would do some bits and pass the laptop to me,” MPH recalls. “I’d do some bits and, pretty soon, we’d married our sounds together.”
Now, after a summer of major festival appearances—including Parklife, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands—MPH is gearing up for his biggest headline tour yet. The run kicks off September 19 in Copenhagen before arriving in North America October 2 in Portland. Stops include Denver, Toronto and New York, where MPH will close out the tour at Knockdown Center on November 28.
With his mix of gritty low-end pressure and euphoric melody, MPH has become one of the defining names in UK garage and bassline’s global revival. From Coachella and Glastonbury to remixes for Calvin Harris and support from Skrillex, Fred again.., Disclosure, Peggy Gou, Chris Lake and Sammy Virji, his momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
“Mirage” sounds like exactly where that momentum is headed next: fast, bright and built for the biggest rooms in the world.
