Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, “Override,” is here—and it’s ready to break the rules.

Launching August 20, 2026, the new season throws players into a glitchy, retro-gaming-inspired battle to take back the Island and stop Geno. The slogan says it all: “Break the Rules, Change the Game.”

The Island gets a digital makeover, with Calamari Canyon, Frosted Flats, and Sinister Strip removed and large sections rebuilt around the season’s arcade-style aesthetic.

But the biggest shake-up may be the new Cartridge/Lobby Hack system. Players can enter codes or slot in cartridges to trigger match-wide modifiers, potentially changing the rules for everyone in the game.

Combat is getting a serious power-up, too. Sonic’s Spin Dash Mythic delivers wall-running speed, while Mega Man’s arm cannon brings a chargeable attack. There’s also a wonderfully chaotic Tetrimino Junk Rift, which drops giant Tetris blocks onto targeted areas. Add the pixelated 8-Bit Shotgun, dual-wieldable Masamune AR and Shingen SMG, and things are looking suitably unpredictable.

The expanded Sprite system also brings new helpers, including Sonic for speed and Tails for aerial mobility.

And then there are the crossovers. Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails join the action, alongside a growing lineup touching Persona 5 Royal, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Kingdom Hearts, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

In short, Override looks like Fortnite turned the gaming-history dial all the way up—and then hacked the settings. The question now is whether players can master the new rules before Geno takes control.
