Jason Statham is back in familiar territory: fast, furious and very much out for revenge.
Directed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny is an action thriller hitting theaters August 21, 2026, from Lionsgate. Statham stars as Cole Reed, a private security operative whose world turns upside down after his billionaire shipping-tycoon boss is assassinated—and Reed is framed for the murder.
With his name on the line, Reed takes matters into his own hands. His mission? Clear his name, avenge his boss and survive an international conspiracy that sends him into the heart of a cargo ship packed with danger.
The film also stars Annabelle Wallis, Adrian Lester, Roland Møller, Ramon Tikaram, Arnas Fedaravičius and Jason Wong. Richet directs from a screenplay by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, with Marc Butan and Statham producing.
There’s an interesting bit of action-movie history behind Mutiny, too. The screenplay was originally developed as a sequel to Plane, Richet’s 2023 Gerard Butler thriller. After Butler exited the project, the script was reworked into a standalone story.
So, while Mutiny may have started life as a follow-up, it’s arriving as something new: another globe-spanning, fists-first thriller built squarely around Statham’s particular brand of action-star mayhem.
Release date: August 21, 2026.
