If your idea of a relaxing afternoon involves radioactive mutants, candy-fueled chaos, and giving birth to a man in a chicken suit, Ground Zero Hero may be your kind of apocalypse.
Developer Rowan Edmondson and publisher Acclaim, Inc. have launched the wildly weird roguelike horde-survival game on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam. It’s also streaming today on Antstream Arcade and available for the Polycade lineup of modular arcade cabinets.
Inspired by the manic visual energy of The Simpsons and Rick & Morty, Ground Zero Hero throws players into a hand-drawn wasteland crawling with mutant hordes. As Radboy, you’ll smash piñatas, inhale irradiated monster guts, collect candy, and unlock increasingly ridiculous mutations while trying not to get completely overrun.
“It’s about cramming as much dopamine into some silly fun as I possibly could,” creator Rowan Edmondson says. After three years handling everything from code and art to music, he’s clearly not here to win a Michelin star—just to serve up one seriously weird cheeseburger.
The mutation system lets players stack permanent upgrades and devastating combinations, while multiple wastelands bring interactive environments and a dynamic soundtrack that reacts to the action. In other words: expect things to get loud.
There’s also a fresh launch trailer showcasing Radboy’s candy hunt, mutant-mashing abilities, and enough radioactive mayhem to make a Geiger counter nervous.
Early adopters can grab 10% off on consoles through August 27, while Steam players get 15% off through September 3, 2026. A Steam demo is available now, and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can try a limited one-hour trial.
