A katana, gravity manipulation, and a world knocked out of its own dimension? Airo Games is bringing some intriguing ideas to the sci-fi action platformer genre.

The first public demo of Knights of the Fall is now available on Steam as part of Steam Next Fest, giving players an early look at a cinematic adventure where mastering time and gravity could be the key to saving Earth.

Developed by Airo Games in cooperation with Bohemia Interactive through the Bohemia Incubator program, the game follows Haru, a katana-wielding veteran, and Yoshida, a former NASS scientist, as they search for a way to bring Earth back to its original dimension.

Combat mixes fast katana strikes, ranged weapons, dodging, and parrying with gravity-bending abilities that let players pull enemies into striking distance. It’s a promising combination that asks players to think beyond simply swinging a sword.

The demo features three locations: an unsettling dream sequence that introduces the combat basics, Yoshida’s base, and an abandoned NASS hospital filled with dangerous encounters and clues about missing scientists and mysterious anomalies.

There’s also a larger mystery at work. After experiments with time and gravity opened a portal that dragged Earth into another dimension, Haru and Yoshida must uncover what went wrong. Along the way, they’ll investigate a strange connection between interdimensional travel and the afterlife.

With its post-apocalyptic setting and cinematic 2D/3D visual style, Knights of the Fall is worth a look for players who enjoy story-driven action games with unusual mechanics.
