The world of Death Stranding is expanding beyond video games. KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS has unveiled a new teaser and additional details for DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS, an upcoming animated series set to stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
The announcement came during the studio’s 10th anniversary celebration, BEYOND THE STRAND: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor, in Tokyo.
Unlike the games, Isolations will tell an entirely new story set in the same haunting world. Taking place in North America after Sam reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network, the series explores the unexpected consequences of bringing a fractured society back together.
At the center of the story is a young girl who has grown comfortable with isolation, choosing to avoid human connection after the devastating events of the Death Stranding. But fate has other plans, as a series of unexpected encounters pulls her into a world she barely recognizes. Along the way, viewers will meet a mysterious old man, a female soldier trapped in endless conflict, and a boy struggling with the cruelty of his existence.
The series will take a different visual approach from the games, featuring traditional, hand-drawn 2D animation. Director Takayuki Sano leads the project, with animation handled by E&H production, the studio behind NINJA KAMUI and BULLET/BULLET.
KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS also confirmed that acclaimed Japanese author Tow Ubukata (Mardock Scramble) has joined the project as Series Composition and Screenplay writer. Original character designs come from Ilya Kuvshinov, while Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer.
With a new cast of characters, a fresh storyline, and a distinctive animation style, DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS looks ready to explore another side of Kojima’s strange and fascinating post-apocalyptic universe.
DEATH STRANDING ISOLATIONS arrives exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
