Disney+ has just dropped the powerful full-length trailer for its upcoming UK Original drama Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes. Premiering exclusively on April 30, the four-part series revisits one of Britain’s most tragic cases of mistaken identity.

Written and executive produced by BAFTA-winner Jeff Pope (Philomena, Stan and Ollie), Suspect chronicles the fatal shooting of innocent Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes, played by Edison Alcaide. Set against the tense backdrop of London in 2005, the series explores the tragic aftermath of the July 7 bombings and the massive manhunt that followed.

As shown in the trailer, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair (Conleth Hill) and Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman (Max Beesley) lead a frantic counter-terrorism effort, unaware that another planned attack is brewing. When that attempt fails, police launch one of the UK’s largest surveillance operations, headed by Commander Cressida Dick (Emily Mortimer). In the chaos and fear gripping the nation, Jean Charles is misidentified as a suspect and fatally shot at Stockwell station — a tragedy that shook the world.

Told through multiple perspectives, including that of Independent Police Complaints Commission secretary Lana Vandenberghe (Laura Aikman) and Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick (Russell Tovey), the series dives deep into questions about memory, truth, and justice. It paints a portrait of a family’s relentless fight for answers amid a storm of misinformation and official secrecy.

Produced by Etta Pictures (under ITV Studios) and KDJ Productions, the series also has the involvement of Jean Charles’ family, who served as consultants to ensure authenticity.

Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes promises to be a gripping, emotionally charged retelling of a dark chapter in modern British history. All four episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ starting April 30, 2025.
