Dust Bunny marks Bryan Fuller’s feature directorial debut, bringing his signature blend of dark whimsy and psychological depth to the big screen. Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, this 2025 horror-thriller intertwines childhood fears with adult guilt in a story as unsettling as it is visually enchanting.
The film follows Aurora (Sophie Sloan), a young girl who insists that a monster beneath her bed devoured her family. Seeking help, she turns to her mysterious neighbor (Mads Mikkelsen), a haunted hitman wrestling with his past. While guilt convinces him assassins may be responsible, he agrees to guide Aurora into confronting the lurking terror.
Adding gravity to the tale, Sigourney Weaver plays a figure who understands the truth of Mikkelsen’s past, blurring the line between reality and illusion. The trailer teases shadow-drenched action, surreal fantasy, and moments where childlike belief collides with brutal violence.
Supported by David Dastmalchian, Rebecca Henderson, and Sheila Atim, Dust Bunny offers more than a monster story—it explores where darkness truly resides: under the bed, or within ourselves. With its mix of high-octane thrills, dreamlike visuals, and a poignant found-family core, Fuller’s debut promises to be both terrifying and tender when it hits theaters in December 2025.
