GRAMMY-nominated duo SOFI TUKKER have unveiled their latest collaboration: the silky smooth “Bread (butter version)” featuring Brazilian icon Seu Jorge. This lush new track is the first glimpse of their upcoming album, butter, set to drop May 16th. Positioned as the jazz-infused, alter-ego companion to their acclaimed 2024 album BREAD, butter is a love letter to Brazilian culture and sound.
On “Bread (butter version),” Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern take a bold step, with Sophie delivering verses in Portuguese and Seu Jorge switching to English — a surprising and beautiful role reversal. “The night we recorded with Seu Jorge will forever be ingrained in my memory,” Sophie shares. “He thanked me for learning Portuguese and singing in his language. I was blown away… he has one of those once-in-a-generation voices.”
Recorded in Brazil, butter showcases a softer, more organic side of SOFI TUKKER. Moving away from their high-energy dance roots, the album blends beloved Brazilian genres like MPB, bossa nova, and samba with Latin styles including bolero and bachata. It even nods to reggae and samba-reggae, creating a breezy, top-down soundtrack that contrasts beautifully with their usual EDM-driven sound.
Fresh from their set at Stagecoach’s Diplo’s Honky Tonk, SOFI TUKKER are gearing up for a packed 2025 tour schedule. Fans can catch them at their Las Vegas residency (Wynn Nightlife), BottleRock Napa Valley (May 23), Breakaway Festival Ohio (May 30), and World Pride in Washington DC (June 6-7). Notably, they’ll bring their butter sound to life with a special performance at the legendary Newport Jazz Festival on August 1st.
