Los Angeles psych-rock project The Undercover Dream Lovers returns with “banging my head,” a fuzzed-out blast of cathartic rock and roll from the upcoming album atomic house (out March 20 via SoundOn). The track finds songwriter and producer Matt Koenig pushing himself to the brink—sonically and emotionally.

Driven by scorched neon guitar and blown-out vocals, “banging my head” channels frustration into something visceral. Koenig jokes that childhood mishaps—“baseball bats and hockey pucks… I split my head open three times”—may have sparked the idea, but the song digs deeper. It captures the universal sensation of self-doubt becoming almost physical.

A gifted red Gibson guitar unlocked a louder, riskier edge in Koenig’s writing. He even screamed so hard in the vocal booth that he lost his voice for a month. That leap outside his comfort zone defines atomic house, a 14-track journey built from tactile memories—dial-up phones, ding-dong ditch, basement TVs humming to life.

From Pittsburgh beginnings to New York DIY spaces and present-day LA nights, Koenig crafts immersive indie rock worlds. atomic house isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake—it’s a reminder to stay present, feel deeply, and let the noise out.
