Some songs age gracefully. Others get a whole new life.
Michelle Branch and New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander have reunited for a reimagined version of “The Game of Love,” complete with an official music video that marks the first New Radicals music video appearance since 1998.
The reunion is more than a nostalgia trip. It’s a full-circle moment for a song that helped define Branch’s early career—and earned her and Santana a Grammy in 2003. Alexander, who wrote and produced the original, suggested the then-19-year-old Branch for the track after hearing she had been covering New Radicals songs on tour. She nailed the vocal on her first take.
More than two decades later, the pair are back together, with Branch calling the experience “surreal—and also completely natural.”
The new “Game of Love” kicks off Branch’s upcoming Everywhere and Back Again EP, due November 6 via BMG. The project revisits songs including “Everywhere,” “All I Wanted,” “Goodbye To You” and “Breathe,” pairing Branch’s beloved catalog with new collaborations from artists and peers who grew up with her music.
And there’s another New Radicals comeback happening at the same time. Last week, the band released “One Night Only,” their first new song in decades and the title track from the romantic comedy starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, directed by Will Gluck.
For Alexander, the reunion is about more than looking backward. After returning to the studio and putting their 2001 and 2026 vocals side by side, he said the experience reminded them that “singing our hearts out” might be exactly what the moment calls for.
That spirit seems to be the point of Everywhere and Back Again: celebrate the songs that made the memories, but don’t mistake nostalgia for the finish line.
Branch certainly isn’t. Her nearly 20-date Everywhere and Back Again Tour sold out within its first week, with stops including Los Angeles’ The Wiltern, New York’s Beacon Theatre, San Francisco’s The Castro, Chicago’s House of Blues and Boston’s Royale.
