Netflix is getting ready to drop into the world of PUBG. KRAFTON has announced that a live-action series based on its blockbuster battle royale franchise is in development at Netflix, with Emmy and Golden Globe winner Donald Glover leading the project.
Glover, best known for Atlanta and Community, will wear several hats on the adaptation, serving as director, writer, executive producer, and star. His brother, Stephen Glover, will also join the project as a writer and executive producer.
The production team includes Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, KRAFTON’s entertainment division.
First released in 2017, PUBG helped popularize the battle royale genre and grew into one of gaming’s biggest global franchises. With seven Guinness World Records to its name, the property has plenty of history to draw from as it makes the jump from the battlefield to the small screen.
There’s no word yet on a release date, cast details beyond Glover, or exactly how the series will approach the game’s familiar survival formula. Still, bringing Glover on board in such a major creative role makes this one worth watching.
The drop is coming. Now we wait to see who makes it out alive.
