Los Angeles indie outfit untitled (halo) has officially released its self-titled debut album via Dirty Hit, alongside a new music video for “how to make your love (stay).” Directed by band members Ariana Mamnoon and Jack Dione, the tender video follows two young friends navigating the complicated territory of love and loss.
The album brings together previously released singles “sex,” “easy rider” and “aimee lou wood (freestyle),” while introducing a collection built around heartbreak, isolation, personal growth and the strange emotional contradictions of life in Los Angeles.
The band describes its sound and outlook through a phrase of its own making: “California Melancholia.” It’s a fitting description for music that finds sadness beneath endless sunshine, exploring the tension between the promise of possibility and the feeling of being emotionally stuck.
Written over the course of a year in the band’s Glassell Park studio, the record became a creative outlet for members Ariana Mamnoon, Jack Dione, Jay Are and Nicholas Noneman as they worked through personal struggles and changing relationships. What started as a period of uncertainty eventually became something more constructive, with the studio serving as a place to turn difficult experiences into sound.
Beyond the music, untitled (halo) has become an active part of LA’s DIY creative community. Through self-curated events, art exhibitions and local parties, the longtime friends have helped build the kind of artistic community they once wanted to find themselves.
