Providence’s beloved band, The Pines of Rome, make a triumphant return with their first new album in over two decades, now available on Solid Brass Records.

Comprised of John Kolodij, Matthew Derby, Rick Prior, and newly added member Steven Kimura on bass, The Pines of Rome have spent the past 25 years exploring the frontiers of Cosmic American Music. They weave together hypnotic waves of sound that ebb and flow, reminiscent of the turbulent Atlantic waves pounding the shores of Rhode Island.

Originally forming in 1997 during Providence’s thriving music scene, where diverse genres harmoniously coexisted, The Pines of Rome embraced a fusion of fuzz pop, psych rock, and noise. They transcended musical boundaries that often separate artists in other cities, gracing stages at iconic venues like Fort Thunder, AS220, and The Living Room.

After more than two decades since their last show, the pandemic compelled Matthew Derby to reconnect with former bandmate John Kolodij and embark on new musical endeavors. With the addition of Steven Kimura on bass, the trio transformed into a four-piece powerhouse.

The Pines of Rome play a special hometown album release show on July 22nd at the Columbus Theatre in Providence. Tickets are available here.

Throughout their journey, The Pines of Rome have shared stages with renowned acts such as Songs:Ohia/Magnolia Electric Co., Richard Buckner, Bonnie Prince Billy, June of ’44, Shipping News, Lullaby for the Working Class, the Promise Ring, Jets To Brazil, Rainer Maria, Joan of Arc, Silkworm, Bright Eyes, and many more.
