Directed by Mike Downie, the docuseries delves into the band’s triumphs, challenges, and the deep bonds of brotherhood that propelled them from playing basement gigs to becoming arena rock legends.

The world premiere of No Dress Rehearsal is set to take place at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), followed by screenings at film festivals nationwide. Prime Video plans to announce the streaming release date soon.

“We’re thrilled to premiere the incredible story of The Tragically Hip at this year’s TIFF. It will be a powerful and memorable event,” said Mike Downie. “This project is a labor of love, featuring personal and unseen footage from the band’s 40-year history. We set out to understand what held the band together, what pushed them apart, and how they captured the hearts and minds of so many fans both in Canada and around the world.”

The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal is, at its core, a love story between a band and their country. With never-before-seen personal and archival footage, the Canadian rock legends share the story of their unique, complicated, and wildly successful musical brotherhood. The series spans 40 years of hits and misses, friendship and frustration, triumph and tragedy. It features unseen performances, unreleased music, and unparalleled access to The Hip.

Originating from Kingston, Ontario, Rob Baker, Gord Downie, Johnny Fay, Paul Langlois, and Gord Sinclair rose to fame as The Tragically Hip with their signature mix of rock anthems and poetic lyrics. Throughout their storied career, the band released 14 studio albums—nine of which reached #1 in Canada—won 17 Juno Awards, were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and earned a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Their 2016 cross-Canada tour, which took place after Downie’s terminal cancer diagnosis, became a cultural phenomenon that captivated millions.

Produced by Courage Films with support from Ontario Creates and the Government of Canada, The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal is directed and produced by Mike Downie, with Jake Gold serving as executive producer.

This docuseries joins a lineup of Canadian Amazon Originals that includes award-winning content such as Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe, Luxe Listings: Toronto, LOL: Qui rira le dernier?, Three Pines, and many others. The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal is sure to become a standout addition to this impressive slate.
