Canadian singer-songwriter girlsweetvoiced is officially stepping into the spotlight. The Ottawa native has announced her highly anticipated debut project, Lovesweet, arriving July 24 via RCA Records and A24 Music, alongside the release of her captivating new single, “Energizer.”
After building a devoted following through short-form videos showcasing her original songs, girlsweetvoiced has quickly become one of indie pop’s most intriguing new voices. Her breakout single “Tonight” gained attention not only for its intimate songwriting but also for its sample of Joni Mitchell’s classic “California” — a sample Mitchell personally approved after receiving a heartfelt letter from the artist.
Drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek poet Sappho, whose phrase “girl sweetvoiced” inspired her stage name, girlsweetvoiced explores themes of love, longing, and loss with striking honesty. New single “Energizer,” along with recent releases “spearmint” and “slowbird,” further showcases her knack for blending folk influences with modern pop production.
Despite limited formal musical training, girlsweetvoiced has crafted a distinctive sound through minimalist self-produced beats and deeply personal songwriting. With guidance from collaborators Michael Uzowuru and Mike Furlong, and influences ranging from Joni Mitchell to Frank Ocean, she’s shaping a musical world entirely her own.
With Lovesweet on the horizon, girlsweetvoiced looks poised for a major breakthrough.
