Apple Original Films has unveiled the first teaser trailer and key art for “Being Heumann,” a new feature about Judy Heumann, the pioneering activist widely known as the “mother of the disability rights movement.”
Directed by Academy Award winner Siân Heder, the filmmaker behind CODA, the film takes audiences back to 1977, when Heumann and a determined coalition of young disabled activists took over a federal building after their calls for change went unanswered.
What started as an act of frustration became a historic protest — and the longest occupation of a federal building in U.S. history. With humor, grit and plenty of rebellious spirit, “Being Heumann” follows an unlikely group as they find their collective voice and push for change that would affect millions.
Starring Ruth Madeley and Mark Ruffalo, the film is based on true events and marks Heder’s second collaboration with Apple Original Films.
“Being Heumann” opens in select theaters November 6, 2026, before its global debut on Apple TV November 13. The teaser arrives just ahead of the film’s world premiere as the opening selection of the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10.
