Get ready to rock out because Pleasure Forever is making a comeback after 20 years since their last album, the iconic Alter released on Sub Pop with the notorious catalog number Sub Pop #666. This August, they’re unleashing a new mini-album titled Distal that will leave you guessing, just like they always have.
Pleasure Forever continues to defy categorization, blending elements of heavy-hitting rock with their signature exploration of 60s psychedelia and their unique take on classic rock from an alternate universe. They infuse hypnotic and minimal rhythms reminiscent of heady Krautrock, creating a sound that will captivate fans of Roxy Music, The Doors, The VSS, CAN, Amon Düül II, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and more.
Following the unexpected losses of dear friends, tour mates, and family in recent years, the band members—vocalist/keyboardist Andrew Rothbard, drummer Dave Clifford, and guitarist Joshua Hughes—reconnected to catch up. Soon, they found themselves trading home-recorded ideas, igniting a frenzy of file sharing. In no time, they had assembled a batch of new songs and took charge of recording and mixing the seven tracks that make up Distal.
During the two-decade hiatus, Rothbard released multiple solo albums under his full name, Andrew Douglas Rothbard. Clifford kept busy playing drums in instrumental post-metal band Red Sparowes, as well as contributing to Marriages, Jail Weddings, and other projects. Hughes, on the other hand, lent his powerful vocals and guitar skills to sludge metal trio Rabbits, signed to Relapse Records. Interestingly, all three members had previously played together in the synth-punk pioneers, The VSS, back in the mid-90s. Pleasure Forever also treated fans to a collection of B-sides and cover songs titled Bodies Need Rest in 2007.
Get ready to experience the electrifying return of Pleasure Forever as they unleash their latest sonic creation, Distal. Brace yourself for a musical journey that defies expectations and takes you on a wild ride through their unique blend of rock and psychedelia. So turn up the volume, dive into their hypnotic rhythms, and let Pleasure Forever transport you to their musical universe once again.
