Two decades after their self-titled debut shook up the indie rock scene, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are marking the milestone with something long overdue: an official music video for the fan-favorite track, “The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth.” Premiering today, the video is a visually rich collaboration between award-winning directors David M. Helman (IDLES, Vince Staples) and Daniel Henry (Julien Baker, Kurt Vile).

Helman and Henry, given full creative freedom by CYHSY frontman Alec Ounsworth, crafted a video that’s less about illustrating the song and more about expanding its universe. Centered on a strip mall computer repairman (played by Eric Rahill), the clip follows the protagonist as he glimpses into the digital lives of his customers, while seeking beauty in his own world. “It’s a celebration for the incompatible and the base models of all things, human and machine,” Helman explains.

Blending nostalgic internet culture and a nod to duality—between old and new, New York and West Virginia—the video serves as a modern reflection of the song’s restless energy. “We took it as a personal challenge to fill this video to the brim with references from growing up on the internet,” adds Henry.

Ounsworth, once resistant to music videos, embraced the collaboration. “I have softened my stance after considering that a music video can be a true artistic partnership,” he says. “David and Daniel have put their own interpretive stamp on this song, and I’m happy to let go.”

The release coincides with the 20th anniversary deluxe vinyl reissue of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, featuring reimagined artwork, splatter vinyl, and a bonus flexi disc with the original 2004 recording of “Heavy Metal.” Alongside it, Ounsworth is reissuing three more albums—Flashy Python’s Skin and Bones (on translucent rouge vinyl), his solo record Mo Beauty (on smoky marble vinyl), and CYHSY’s 2011 LP Hysterical, now with blue metallic foil and exclusive extras. All are out May 30 via Ounsworth’s label through Secretly Distribution, with pre-orders live now.

The Clap Your Hands Say Yeah milestone 20th anniversary will further be commemorated with a wide-ranging world tour that sees Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – currently comprising Ounsworth, Todd Erk (bass, synth), Jonas Oesterle (drums) and Ben Collins (guitar, keys, lights) – performing the classic album in its entirety. North American dates continue this week, culminating later in the month with a very special homecoming performance set for May 10 at Philadelphia, PA’s Union Transfer. Support comes from special guests Knifeplay (May 2-10). Ticket availability is increasingly limited. As a special incentive for concertgoers, all limited deluxe vinyl reissues will be available exclusively at the merch desk in advance of their official May 30 release.
