Boston indie rock quartet Gollylagging unveil “Jackknife,” a raw and melodic new single about the painful aftermath of a friendship falling apart. Released alongside an official video filmed in a local neighborhood park, the track balances sharp, layered guitar riffs with emotionally heavy lyricism.

“‘Jackknife’ is about the aftermath of friendship fallouts,” says vocalist and guitarist Jake Regulbuto. “You can want the best for people, but know your relationship to them can’t be the same as it used to be.”

Leaning into a lighter, hook-driven sound without losing their edge, the band captures the complicated mix of regret, distance, and lingering care that follows fractured relationships. Drummer Andrew Garas revealed the song went through multiple revisions after an intense six-hour recording session, crediting producer Rowan for helping shape the final version.

Directed and edited by bassist Joey Lorant, the video keeps things simple and genuine, showing the band performing and joking around together outdoors. “I tried to capture how it feels for us to play the song live,” Lorant says, “fun and light.”

Made up of Regulbuto, Jules Skiffington, Garas, and Lorant, Gollylagging have steadily built a name for themselves across Boston’s indie scene through releases like fauna, Dry Rot, and this year’s “Bronco.” Pulling from shoegaze, punk, and bedroom pop, the band continues carving out their own lane.

This June, Gollylagging will perform in Boston and New York City alongside Dino Gala, warmachine, and Carrying.
